Hello, and welcome to my first review. Firstly, let me say that I am very proud to have the opportunity to work for this site and thank them for giving me the chance to display my articles. I apologize if this article seems a bit rushed. This does not do my normal writing style justice, but it had to be rushed due to more pressing real life issues. Please forgive any inconsistencies in this article and know that I will do my best in the future. Now, with that out of the way, let’s get on to the actual review.
Although fans of the original series will be happy to know that Hei is still alive and kicking, the first episode does not focus on him. Instead, we are introduced to a young girl named Suō Pavlichenko, who appears to be the female lead. She starts out as an average 13 year-old whose twin brother Shion becomes a contractor after a falling meteor core fragment takes his right eye and ability to walk, though it is explained later that the loss of his ability to walk was his price. After her brother changes, her father takes them into hiding, locking his son away, and leaving Suō as the only one with whom he has extensive contact. As per usual with contractors, Shion loses all emotion, his own father even scared of him.
As if that were not already stressful enough, her life takes a turn for the worse when she sees her friend Tanya, who has become a contractor, attack her own boyfriend. Later still, Suō's home is attacked; an attempt to capture both Shion and the meteor fragment unsuccessful. Here, Hei makes his first appearance, it being clear that for some unknown reason Yin has left his company, as he has repeated flashbacks of her leaving, which has apparently left him depressed.
During the attack, Shion manages to escape capture and helps his younger sister get away. It is also apparent that he regains his ability to walk as he says that his price has been paid. Hei, who is working for the CIA, was sent in to kill the scientist and retrieve the meteor fragment, but his compassion gets the better of him and he ends up helping the girl get away. Soon it is revealed that even though Suō cannot stand killing, she awakens some contractor ability of her own. While it remains unclear what that ability is, she seems to be able to produce weapons from the meteor fragment around her neck.
I have only watched three episodes of this anime so far, but I can tell you that it is much faster paced then the original series, which in my view is a nice change. With so many agencies trying to get a hold of Suō and the meteor fragment, it is safe to assume that it is going to be a rough and fun ride for everyone’s favorite contractor. I personally can not wait to see what happens next, and I give this anime a solid 9 out of 10. Be sure to check it out.
