Devil May Cry
Devil May Cry is a twelve episode anime, the adaptation embodiment of a franchise originating with a series of video games that quickly spawned novels, manag and eventually a full anime.

The hero of our little drama is Dante, the owner and proprietor of the Devil May Cry detective agency. A half demon that specializes in eliminating the otherworldly problems that his clients bring to his door, Dante still seems to find himself in constant financial straits. The issues doesn't seem to much concern him however, as he appears to prefer a simple life where he is able to eat his pizzas and strawberry sundaes in peace. Peace is not something that seems to be in the cards for Dante though, as his supposed partner Morrison is constantly bringing in a stream of new jobs to his door. This is likely a positive given Dante's low initiative however, and let’s face it; pizza and strawberry sundaes aren't free right?

Make no mistake about it, this is an action-oriented anime and anyone looking for a deep and meaningful plot need look elsewhere. Most of the anime itself consists of Dante and his small group of friends taking cases from random clients that are in no way connected from one episode to the next. That's not to say that the anime itself does not have an overarching story line, though it is only in the last three episodes the creators of the series try their best to piece an overall plot together, but I must confess that it comes off more than a little rushed. As though they suddenly decided that they needed a purpose for it all; though all considered it is nice that they made the gesture to try to end the series on some high note rather then have it be just another episode.

Anyone who wants a nice dose of action should give this anime a look, and while some may look at the lack of complexity as a negative, there are days when you just want some action without a lot of complex plot twist and turns to burden it, and this anime more then fills that bill. Even without a complex plot, Dante comes off as a lovable character that you just can not help but to pull for while his supporting cast just seems to add more depth to the mix. While Trish and Lady return as regulars to provide a sort of love interest for our hero, new comers Patty Lowell (an orphan that Dante rescues in the first episode) and Morrison add a lot of depth to the supporting cast. The characters are truly what makes this series shine.

While I would not suggest this for a younger audience, I would say that if you want a healthy dose of action and have a couple hours to kill. This anime is just what the doctor ordered. While it might not make the top of my list for the greatest anime of all time, I would say that I would watch it again if I was bored one day and the mood struck me solely based on the quality of the animation and characters.

Overall Rating: 5 out of 10

Concept:
A half demon that runs the Devil May Cry detective agency and can help you with all of your demon hunting needs big or small. Based on the hit Playstation 2 game as well as the manga and novel adaptions, the series follows Dante and his friends as they fight demons in between ordering strawberry sundaes and pizza.

Characters:
The characters are the shining jewels of this series. Dante is your lazy hero who really does not want to be bothered, but trouble always seems to find him anyway. Patty Lowell is a loveable little girl with a good head on her shoulders that tries her very best to keep Dante out of trouble, which is often a full time job. While his partner Morrison is reminiscent of one of those guys that come to your door when you owe the mob money, he does seem to be extremely loyal and willing to risk his life for Dante. All in all, a full cast of interesting characters with this just the tip of the iceberg.

Art Work:
The art is another area were this anime shines as Madhouse has outdone themselves with the quality of this animation, this is an anime that is worth watching in high quality.

Re-watch:
This anime is short, sweet, and to the point. While I do not know if I would be shelling out enough money to own the DVD set, I can honestly say that it would be something that I would not mind renting again if I had a few hours to kill on a slow day.

Voice Acting:
Reuben Christopher Langdon “credited as Justin Cause” does a wonderful job reprising his role as Dante, perfectly captures the carefree attitude of our would be hero. Similarly, Louisa Michelle Christian who has several anime to her credit, lends her voice talents to the role of Trish who is Dante’s ex-partner. Hilary Haag plays a loveable little girl who does her best to keep Dante in line and has such a hard time doing it, a role well exacted. Finally, Robert Louis Mungle does a wonderful job at playing the role of Dante’s partner Morrison. Overall an experienced and successful cast and voice actors.
